SoundPLAN Application - Railroad Noise Model

Noise Contour Map 1: Navcon Engineering optimized a 8 ft noise barrier along an existing Light Rail System. A 3 dimensional acoustical model was developed using the acquired noise data to calibrate the model. The noise levels were computed over a calculation area. The results are contoured using a Bezier algorithm [High sound levels : red / blue color Lower sound levels: yellow / green colors]. Map 1 shows the Prognosis with a 8 ft absorptive noise barrier along the Light Rail System.

The noise contour maps show:

Blue line: Buildings and walls
Pink line: Light Rail System (Line Source)
Green Line: Noise Barrier
Blue Points: Receiver Location

Application:

• Visualizing the noise propagation on both sides of the track
• Buildings are effective as reflective surfaces and also as noise barriers
• Screening effect of 8 ft noise barrier on the the South-East side of the track
